Monthly Goals: March 2019

I think something that will be good for my mental health will be to set out monthly goals. & the goal isn’t to accomplish and master each goal but, to just try.

There will be some goals that are personally easier to keep up with than others but if I try, that’s good enough for me. No need to give myself extra stress because I couldn’t keep up with one or two goals.

For the month of March, I will try and seek out 10 personal goals. I know 10 may sound like a lot to start off with but like I said if I try that’s good enough for me and if at the end of the month, 10 was too many goals I will lower it for April.

My 10 monthly goals for March are:

  1. Keep Practicing my Deep Breathing Exercises

In 2019, I started paying better attention to my breathing because every single tip to help with anxiety was to breathe. At first, I kept thinking how stupid that advice was, but I kept hearing it so I thought, well there must be something to it then, right?

I’m by no means an expert at calming my anxiety through deep breathing exercises but I’m making small progress. When I’m starting to feel anxious, I especially feel it in my chest area (in between my chest ((aka boobs)) I usually feel a VERY tight knot) and in that moment I realize that I’m not breathing or that my breathing is choppy.

I usually don’t have time to leave my desk and will lock my computer (absolutely no computer distractions they can wait two minutes), close my eyes, and imagine every deep breath is below my belly button then slowly breathe out. I’m still practicing the transition between breathing in and out because that transition can seem choppy, almost like I need to hold my breath before breathing out again. Well, anyways practice makes perfect!

  1. Keep Paying Off my Debt

I don’t have a TON of debt, but I would like to pay off roughly $5,000 in debt. I know this is completely doable and I’m already $500 closer!

My secret is all my leftover money goes to these bills and most bills I’m paying twice a month so I can pay them off faster. All my bills only need to be paid once a month, but each time I get paid it immediately goes into my debt.

I REALLY have my fingers crossed that I can have the debt paid off by the end of this year if rent wasn’t so DAMN HIGH!!

  1. Try a No-Spend Week

This will be my hardest goal for the month of March! I freaking love to shop and I always seem to want to “treat myself” on paydays. I’m thinking since Alec is away on a work trip this week, that this will be the perfect time to try out this goal.

I have no plans this weekend and I might keep it that way unless someone offers to do something that’s free. I think trying out a no-spend week will force me to get creative when it comes to keeping me entertained but also saving money for my bills.

  1. Stop Using Electronics Before Bed

This is a goal that I’ve been wanting to do for the past couple of weeks. I have terrible insomnia and I know being on the phone or watching tv before bed is a huge no-no but Alec loves to lay in bed with the tv on.

I recently started using an eye mask to block out any type of light because we don’t have blackout curtains, and this is the next best thing! I think this goal will be slow progress because like I said, Alec loves falling asleep with the tv on in the background.

  1. Finally, Use Audible & Read More Books

I used to read a TON while growing up and in college, however, just like everyone else, once I graduated from college, I stopped reading. I can come up with all the excuses like I don’t have the time, or I don’t have a light next to my bed but who am I kidding? If I wanted to read, I would have. So, I’m making a conscious decision to read more even if that means listening to a book to and from work!

That’s me making time for reading, no more excuses! I truly believe I have gotten dumber since I’ve stopped reading.

  1. Post More Videos of Myself

I do NOT feel comfortable talking in front of the camera. That may come as a shock to my friends because I am someone who loves to be the center of attention as long as it isn’t in front of a rolling camera; taking photos is a different story though 😉

I personally hate the way I sound on video and I have always been this way. Even in high school when I had to record a singing audition, I had to re-do the tape so many times because I was knit-picking every.single.thing I hated about my voice. My choir teacher had to stop me at one point and make me say things I liked about my voice because in the 30 minutes of doing my audition tape I didn’t say one good thing about my singing voice.

The funny thing is, with that same audition tape that I hated (the final product I didn’t even like, I just said eff it this is good enough, I guess) I ended up being the number 1 soprano vocalist in the state of Florida that year. It just shows that you truly are your worst critic and with that in mind, I am going to post more videos of myself on Instagram because no one will judge me harder than myself!

  1. Write More Blog Posts

While I try and post more videos on Instagram, I also want to write more blog posts.

My biggest problem is that I have so many blog post ideas, but I just can’t seem to complete a blog posting to my liking. I’m a lazy/perfectionist and while I will always try and take the simpler route, I want it to look absolutely perfect. Oh, the dilemma!

I also have a hard time guessing what everyone wants to read. I start to worry, “am I posting too many beauty posts and not enough travel?” I just need to write my posts and then let the feedback roll in.

  1. Keep Trying the Envelope System

This kind of goes back to goal #2. I’ve tried the envelope system once and it completely opened my eyes to how quickly I spend my cash.

I would like to get better at this system and since today was my payday, I think I will stop by the bank tomorrow to take my remaining money out in cash. I love getting an iced coffee from Dunkin’ and taking cash out really gives me a visual on how much those iced coffees are costing me. Of course, I love my iced coffee so much that I work it around my budget!

  1. Eat Healthier

My goal is to eat a healthier diet and the way I shop is going to change this month.

I no longer want to purchase food that comes in packaging. I’m starting to realize that what I should be eating shouldn’t come in a can or a box but rather from the ground and straight from farmer to person.

I know, not everyone may have the luxury of having a farmer’s market near them but if you do, then you should check it out! The one nearest to me is a HUGE farmer’s market wherein certain seasons you can pick strawberries, green peppers, tomatoes, and even sunflowers! Mine also has an indoor market that has equally fresh fruits and vegetables as it does outside.

Of course, there are some items I will still purchase that come in packaging like rice, pasta, and milk but I will be more eco-conscious about the packaging my food comes in. I’m hoping eating a healthier diet will help with my mental health. Fingers crossed!

  1. Set my Alarm for Sunrise – Everyday

I already did this one today! Score!

I’m an early bird naturally well, actually, a weird temporary case of stomach issues would wake me up every morning at 6 am, for the first half of 2018 is what forced me to be a morning person.

But with that being said, I actually don’t mind being a morning person! If you looked at myself in college, I was the type of person who would wake up at 10 am then take a nap at 11:30 am AND THEN most likely another nap after my classes. You seriously wouldn’t be able to recognize me now.

Now, I’m going to bed by 9-9:30 pm and will naturally wake up around 6:30-7 am, if I don’t set an alarm. But now I think it’s time to step things up a bit and I would like to create a morning routine for myself. Something relaxing to start my day off with and that’s why I want to set my alarm for sunrise each morning: so I can take time for myself before anyone else wakes up and have some time to myself and relax.

And those are my personal goals for the month of March! What are your personal goals? Even if you don’t make a list of 10 goals just pick out one thing you’ve always wanted to do and try it out this month AND you totally have to let me know how it goes 😉
